Wellness Station: Move Into Connection
Dance is more than movement—it’s a mind-body reset. At this station, Tee-Jay will introduce the power of dance as a self-care practice for therapists. Through simple, playful choreography rooted in ballroom and social dance, you’ll have a chance to step out of your head and into your body.
Movement helps release stress, improve mood, and restore energy. Just a few minutes of dancing can lower anxiety, regulate your nervous system, and reconnect you with joy. No dance experience is needed! This is about moving freely, laughing together, and remembering that rhythm and flow are powerful tools for mental health.
Tee-Jay Netters is a bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Owner of Melanin Plus Counseling & Wellness in Oldtown Scottsdale. He specializes in helping interracial couples and men with diverse sexual orientations build emotional connection without losing themselves, and he supports trauma and PTSD healing through body-based therapies that help clients get out of their heads and trust themselves again. In addition to his therapy practice, he is the Founder of FOCUS Enrichment, a relational coaching program that blends experiential techniques with his passion for ballroom dance to teach couples practical communication tools on and off the dance floor.
With over a decade of advocacy in LGBTQIA+ communities, public education, and mental health services, Tee-Jay has also served as a lecturer at Arizona State University, where he has taught psychology and therapy courses to both undergraduate and graduate students. His professional background reflects a commitment to integrating clinical expertise with cultural awareness and practical skills that meet people where they are.
Growing up as a gay Afro-Latino, Tee-Jay brings cultural humility and unique insight into systemic injustices, interraciality, and male queer culture. An Arizona native, he speaks Spanish and enjoys cooking, salsa dancing, and experiencing local art events across the Phoenix metro area. He also trains and works with his emotional coach dog, Pepper, incorporating movement-based exercises into his work with clients.
